30 Days with a Grateful Heart: Day 14

Today I am grateful for all the people who have the conviction to make a difference, to care and to work to make the world a better and safer place for others.  I went to the remembrance rally organized by Mom's Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and I must admit I felt a little deflated and disillusioned by the small turnout.  I was left wondering...but then I saw a woman I met earlier this year, her name is Sister J.T. and she works for Seton (Hospital/Community Clinics).  She contacted me to ask me if I would be willing to talk and advocate for the Medicaid Expansion in Texas.  Through Sister J.T. I have become very vocal on this important healthcare issue.  I spoke at a press conference at the Texas Capitol alongside Lloyd Doggett and other representatives.  I also spoke at a hearing.  These I did because I believe that everyone has a right to access quality healthcare, regardless of the ability to pay.  Seeing Sister J.T. at the rally on Saturday gave me hope - I saw someone who is a presence time and time again.  It reminded me of a documentary I saw about Pete Seeger and he was still working for change and justice and was at rallies, even tiny ones with only a handful of people.  I am grateful to everyone that gives a voice to end gun violence and so many other important issues.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Thank you for giving me hope.
